Oral health day is celebrated globally every year on 20th March. Of the world's population, 90% will suffer from oral diseases in their lifetime, many avoidable. Organized by World Dental Federation (FDI), World Oral Health Day (WOHD) involves campaigns by national dental associations from around the world with activities in over 130 countries.
Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD) marked “World Oral Health Day” to raise awareness about the importance of oral hygiene. Every year Khyber College of Dentistry arranges a walk to create awareness among general public. The walk was attended by BDS students of all years, faculty staff, management staff, TMOs’ and HOs.
The objective of this walk and seminar was to highlight oral diseases, such as tooth decay and gum disease, are widespread and preventable and through proper self-care, regular dental check-ups and managing risk factors, good oral health and general health can be secured.

WOHD spreads messages about good oral hygiene practices to adults and children alike and demonstrates the importance of optimal oral health in maintaining general health and wellbeing.

Each year, WOHD focuses on a specific theme and reaches out to the public, oral health professionals, and policymakers, who all have a role to play in helping reduce the burden of oral disease.

The theme of this year World Oral Health Day is "Say Ahh: Act on Mouth Health". If you Act on Mouth Health it will also have a positive impact on your general health and well-being.  Say Ahh is a phrase that is commonly used by dentists and doctor during check-ups. It invites people to open their mouths for examination and brings to life the notion of the mouth serving as mirror to the body and reflecting overall health. We want people to understand the mouth and body connection because the more informed they are about the impact of oral health on their general health, the more likely they will be engage in preventive oral care routines’

Pitfalls of competitive connectivity in Asia

16 May 2020 Author: Jürgen Rüland, University of Freiburg Geopolitical competition between the United States and China is most tangible in Asia. In 2011, Washington responded to China’s growing influence in the region with its ‘Pivot to Asia’. Two years later, Beijing countered with its  Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)  — a US$1 trillion infrastructure development program connecting Asia with Europe via land, sea and the polar route. Although promoted as a way to improve regional integration and economic growth, the BRI is widely viewed as China’s grand strategy to maximise its global clout. The BRI triggered competing infrastructure schemes. In 2015, Japan launched its ‘Partnership for Quality Infrastructure’ and in 2016, ASEAN amended its Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity. Then in 2018, the United States passed the Better Utilization of Investments Leading to Development (BUILD) Act and the European Union released its  EU–Asia Connectivity scheme . Connectivity has become the buzzword
